The end of March and early April is cherry blossom (
sakura) season. Sakura is significant in Japan as symbolizes the start of a new work, school and fiscal year. It's my favourite time of year as it means the grey winter months are finally over and I can finally stop wearing hooded tops to bed (yes, Japanese houses in winter are COLD).
Picnics or Hanami (lit- flower viewing) parties are popular and this involves friends/co-workers getting together and eating and drinking under the cherry blossom trees.
Ikumi and I have had several sakura picnics together (our first being in 2008) and this year we managed to enjoy at least 4.

Ikumi always makes a fking good bento with the BEST karagi (fried chicken). Did someone say Kentucky?! She makes Colonel Saunders look like some sort of 1st year catering college chef.
