Welcome to the world Mia! (Day 1)

Mia was born on Friday, 29th April 2011 at 10.07am. She weighed 2.7kgs and was 47cm long. The photo of the nurse washing Mia was the first photo I took of her - about 10minutes after she was born.

Ikumi was taking into the operation room for her c-section around 9am. Luckily Ikumi's parents came and so the 3 of us waited nervously in the waiting room. I understand now why all those waiting-fathers-to-be pace up and down and smoke like chimneys. Smoking isn't an option for me, so I paced up and down and my sweaty palms on.

However at 10.07am the wait was over. Once I saw little Mia I cried with relief and happiness. As Ikumi wasn't able to hold Mia, I was the first one and holding her for the first time, as sterotypical as it sounds, was one of the most amazing experiences in my 33 years as a human being.

After Mia was cleaned up and weighed, she was put in a little incubator box thing and Ikumi's parents and I waited for Ikumi. She was well, but spent the first day with a lot of pain. After a few hours we were all reunited with little Mia.

Until I saw Mia, I never thought that new born babies were cute. Yes, I thought that babies were amazing and the whole thought about a baby growing from nothing to 3kgs is truly AMAZING, but not cute. However once I saw Mia, I totally changed my mind. She is a real CUTIE and if this blog is still operational in a few years, I hope Mia will read these words and will someone understand my feelings. Maybe if you are a new Dad or Dad to be you might understand my words.

By the end of Day 1, Ikumi, Mia and I were very tired. I had woken up around 5.30am of that morning (after not sleeping well) and I went to bed around 1am the next day, however I went to bed totally happy and content.
